House Projects

When you own a house there's something in the air that makes you want to go out and spend money on flowers! We have been trying to figure out what we could do to add a little color to the front of the house without completely redoing the landscaping.

We found a great flower nursery on county road 49 in the back woods of Alabama, and bought some flowers for the front and back of the house.
It's an on going project, but we like how it is all coming together!

6 Months Old!!

Our little Kenadie is growing up so fast! It is hard to believe she is already 6 months old!

At her last doctors appointment at the beginning of May, she weighed 14lbs & 6oz and was
25 1/2 inches long! She is in the 25th % for weight for her age. Needless to say, she is growing fast and moving up the chart with each doctors visit! Here are some recent pictures of our little lady!

Green Bean Fun!

Now that Kenadie is 6 months old, our doctor gave us the "go ahead" to begin feeding her veggies. We decided to start with green beans. It took her a couple of feeds to get use to the new taste, but she now loves the taste.

Cathy decided to attempt making homemade veggies for Kenadie. It is so easy. You basically steam or boil the frozen or fresh veggies until done and throw them into the blender.
Surprisingly, Kenadie prefers the taste of the homemade veggies over the Gerber brand! YEA!!!
This will save us lots of money!

Easter 2009 was so much fun here in Alabama! Kenadie's GiGi came to visit for a couple of days and Nana B & Daddy Gene came to visit for Easter Sunday! We had a Great time with family although we did miss getting to see PaPa this trip.

Along with celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord we had the opportunity to dedicate Kenadie during the 11am morning worship service.
She did GREAT on the platform in front of so many people.

We had a great time at "Easter on the Square" in downtown Opelika on Satuday morning.

It is hard to believe that Kenadie is old enough to have some rice cereal once a day.
Her first time eating rice cereal was filled with moments of joy and moments of confusion!
She got the hang of it and now LOVES her rice cereal.

This past weekend we went to Gulf Shores, AL with our friends the Tinsley's. Although the trip was to plan for an upcoming retreat we managed to get out to the beach for a short time on Saturday. The weather was beautiful even though it was really windy. We hope to come back soon with Kenadie and play a little more on the beach and in the water.

Cathy's sister Carolyn posted some pictures on her blog

Brett's parents came and spent several days with us at Christmas! We enjoyed having them visit and even taking us to Callaway Gardens in Georgia for the fantasy Lights tour. It was fun even though we could not ride the trolley because of rain and Kenadie. Kenadie enjoyed all the bright colored presents that were wrapped up for her from them!

Snow Day!!! (Kind of)

Our Youth minister at FBC Opelika built a snow gun...a what?? He researched and built a snow gun out of piping and metal "things". The Snow Gun he built actually produced snow! He spent days blowing snow all over his back yard creating a winter wonderland for his boys. We had so much fun going and playing in the snow. The day we went they only had one sled run and 18 inches of snow, by the next day they had three sled runs built and tons of snow.

This is a picture with the snow blowing. He turned the machine off for a little while because we had Kenadie and our friends the Tinsley girls with us.

Trip to Abilene 12-28-2008

The day after we drove to TX we got up WAY TOO EARLY and got back on the road with my parents to go to Abilene for the day. We went to introduce Kenadie to her Great Grandmothers and relatives.

Kenadie was so good on the ride there seeing how she had been in the car for 12 hrs the day before.Here is a picture of Me and Kenadie with my Mom and Grandmoma. There was too much going on at Aunt Carol's house for Kenadie to stay calm and smile!

Trip to Texas 12-27 thru 1-3-09

We loaded up the car the saturday after Christmas and headed to TX! Thats right 2 adults, 2 dogs and and infant! Our SUV was packed full, we did not realize how much stuff we would need to travel with a baby. We had so much fun on our trip getting to see friends and family.

Kenadie had was so excited to meet her "Aunt Laura" (One of Cathy's closest friends) for lunch at La Madeline.

GiGi gave Kenadie a bath using the Cubby Tub in her sink. GiGi thought Kenadie was having a great time in the bath till she realized this big smile is because she was pooping in the sink..The Cubby Tub sponge quickly got thrown away and the sink was cleaned. Thanks Mom for bathing her twice that night:)

December Fun

Kenadie has had a very busy December so far. Here are just a couple of shots of her from the past couple of weeks!

Brett spent the Saturday after Thanksgiving watching the Auburn / Alabama game with Kenadie and cousin Rhodes. Brett always wears his Auburn jersey on game day. I think his face says it all...they got slammed by Alabama! Oh well....Kenadie will be screaming WAR EAGLE soon!

We visited a local Christmas tree farm with our great friends the Tinsley's. The smell of fresh cut trees was great! We enjoyed a hot dog lunch at the farm after the Tinley's picked out their tree. We can't have a real tree in the house because Cathy is very allergic to them. Even though Brett grew up with real trees, he admits now that he loves the ease of putting out our artificial pre-lit tree. It really is beautiful and so easy to deal with!

It has been a busy week!

This week has flown by and I have not uploaded our most recent pictures to the computer so I can post them... I will do that soon. Kenadie has been on the go this week. She went to her first church service this past week. It still counts even though it was evening service and we sat up in the balcony so as to avoid the crowd! We are limiting her exposure to large crowds until she gets all of her shots and gets a little bigger. We have been able to get out and visit a few friends at their homes... Although I think this is more for me than the baby:) Wednesday night I took Kenadie to choir so Brett could introduce her to everyone. We got there after they had already started and it was pretty funny to hear the song they were singing abruptly stop when I walked in with Kenadie! They were all glad to get to see her if only for a few minutes. Unfortunately for some of the ladies Kenadie is not yet big enough to be "passed around". We did not stay long as they had quite a bit to cover in preparation for our Christmas Concert. Kenadie was able to attend her first wedding today! We fed her before we left and she slept like a perfect angel through the ceremony and reception! We are looking forward to this coming Holiday week and all the family that will be coming to see us!

We were so excited to agree on a name for Kenadie soon after finding out she was a girl. Then one day I was doodling her little name, initials and monogram and realized that our poor little girl would have the initials KCF, no big deal...but her monogram would be kFc.... So as a joke my sister Carolyn and brother in law Drew gave Brett a present in this (unused) KFC bucket before Kenadie was born. So we thought it would be funny to take a picture of her in the bucket! I do not think she will find this picture funny when she is older:)

Carolyn and Rhodes Visit

Aunt Carolyn and Cousin Rhodes flew to Alabama last week to spend time with us! We were glad to have them come and visit and get to meet Kenadie!

The weather was beautiful while they were here so we took lots of walks. We bundled both kids up and snuggled them into the stroller together. Rhodes is protecting his little cousin.

We attempted multiple times to get pictures of the two together but it never seemed to work how we wanted it to. This is Carolyn's favorite picture, Look at the smile on Rhodes face while Kenadie is screaming.

Uncle Brett is trying very hard to convince Rhodes that Auburn is the way to go. Besides providing him with multiple Auburn outfits he worked on teaching him "War Eagle" every night along with the motions to the fight song.

Aunt Carolyn and Cousin Rhodes flew in for a visit so we loaded up the car and drove to Atlanta to pick them up. Kenadie did great in the car sleeping the entire time.

After we picked them up we headed to the OK Cafe to meet Nana B and Daddy Gene for Brunch. Kenadie enjoyed getting to see them and be loved on. We can't wait to see them again soon!

GiGi and PaPa came to stay with us after Kenadie was born! We enjoyed their time with us and were so sad to see them leave for Texas after being here and taking such good care of us.

The Nursery: We have been busy trying to get the house set up and the nursery ready for the arrival of Kenadie Celeste. This is a corner of the nursery taken the day we moved in.We went and got some paint samples in an attempt to pick just the right green and pink that would coordinate with the bedding. Brett was already preparing to have a painting party since I am unable to help paint.

And then Our sweet Pastors wife at FBC Opelika approached us about using our nursery as a ministry project and time of fellowship for her Bible Study Group. They wanted to paint the nursery while I was in TX...What a HUGE Blessing!!! So Brett and I taped off the nursery and got all the painting supplies together beore I left town.

Brett said it was pretty awesome to see these girls fellowshiping and painting. I was sooo curious to see all their hard work so he took some quick pics before the tape was taken down to show me when he flew to TX the next day.

So that is what I saw in the pictures while I was in TX. I started planning what I would tackle first when I returned home...remove the tape, paint the trim border, hang curtains, paint dresser and set up crib etc.... But...

Brett truly SUPRISED me!! He stayed up late every night working hard until I flew home in an effort to suprise me with a finished nursery!!! He is the GREATEST!! Brett I appreciate everything you have done for me and now for our sweet Kenadie!!

So this is what I saw when I walked into our house!

Thank You to everyone that helped paint, and to those of you who helped keep the nursery a secret until I returned home! We are truly blessed to call you friends and I was truly suprised at this wonderful gift! Now we are ready to hang pictures and wash the baby clothes!!!

Thanks to some of our close Plano friends we were given a Baby Shower while we were in TX. It was so much fun getting to see everyone and catch up as we celebrated the upcoming arrival of Kenadie!

Our Nephew (born to Cathy's Sister and Brother-in-law) Rhodes Andrew Herndon was born on 08-20-2008. I was so excited to be able to be in TX for this Super Special Occasion!
Rhodes was born at 12:44 weighing in at 7 lbs and 7 oz and he is 18 inches long. Both Mom, Dad and Baby are doing well!

Brett has just recently accepted the Minister of Music & Worship position at First Baptist Church Opelika, Alabama! We will be moving from Texas in late July to begin this exciting new ministry opportunity. The Lord has been so good to us during this period of transition...never have we felt so loved and appreciated....We are truly looking forward to a long ministry with the dynamic people of FBC Opelika! We celebrated our first anniversary in Walt Disney World back in February! It truly was a PERFECT time of year to go! The lines were not long, and the weather was perfect! There is just something about Disney World that causes you to feel like you are 8 years old again! We had a great time and made some great memories!!

For those of you who do not know our history here is a quick recap of the beginnings of Brett and Cathy!

We met in January 2006 on Friday the 27th when my Brother in law Drew proposed to my sister Carolyn. Drew enlisted the help of several friends from church to help pull off a scavenger type proposal and Brett just happened to be one of the helpers! We met that evening at dinner and began dating a few weeks later. Brett proposed to me on August 12th when we went flying in a cesna airplane on a ride around the DFW area! (thanks Bobby and Paul!) After 45 minutes of flying we circled around Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano where Brett and his friends had laid out plywood boards spray painted with the words "Marry Me!" on them on the lawn by the pond and Cross. He did ask me to marry him on the plane but all I could hear were the roar of the engines and I could see his mouth moving and my Beautiful ring that he designed in his hand! We then said our "I do's" on January 27, 2007 a year to the day that we met.

A few months after we were married we welcomed Winnie (the mini Daschund) and Berkley (a mini Shih-tzu) into our home. Here is a pic of them when we first got them. This was at 7 weeks old:

So...Here we are! This blog has been sitting here blank for several months just waiting for someone to post on it...Looks like today is the day!
